JAMES M. ROTH

James M. Roth has spent the past two decades practicing law in California. He has devoted his practice to corporate and business related issues, representing small start-up companies to multi-national entities. He is admitted to practice law before:

  • All Courts in the State of California

  • United States District Courts for the Southern, Eastern, Central and Northern Districts of California

  • The United States Court of Appeal for the Ninth Circuit

Mr. Roth is often called upon to act as general counsel and currently represents over 40 corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies and limited liability partnerships. As general counsel, Mr. Roth uses his extensive experience in counseling, litigating, alternative dispute resolution, negotiating and document origination.

Consistently pursuing his philosophy of “giving back to the community,” James M. Roth is past-President of the Sunrise Rotary Club of Rancho Bernardo where he has been an active member since 1987. He is also a member in good standing of the following organizations, among others:

  • Bernardo Town Center Property Owners’ Association (Director)

  • Blue Sky Community Foundation (Director)

  • Defense Research Institute

  • Poway Center for the Performing Arts (Director)

  • Rancho Bernardo Chamber of Commerce (Former director /past Board Chair )

  • San Diego County Bar Association

  • San Diego Defense Lawyers

  • San Diego Insurance Adjusters Association

  • San Diego North Chamber of Commerce (Director)

  • Lincoln Club of San Diego County

Mr. Roth is a frequent speaker and lecturer to professional and community groups on such topics as proactive approaches to insurance claims handling, extra-contractual liability, commercial real estate, employment related issues, legal ethics, and settlement negotiations. He is also a regular columnist for the San Diego Insurance Adjusters Association and the San Diego County Bar Association.

 

DAVID E.C. GETTIS

One of the requirements for working at the Roth Law Firm is a willingness to be a good corporate citizen, and David Gettis often leads the firm on the charge. Mr. Gettis is active with the San Diego County Bar Association, co-chairing its Mock Trial Video Program for elementary schoolchildren and volunteering with several programs sponsored by the Bar's Children at Risk Committee. He is also a member of the Conference of Delegates of California Bar Associations, which has sponsored several of his proposals for legislative reform.

He previously served as General Counsel of a corporation with interests in health care, real estate, engineering, wireless telecommunications, venture capital, and fine art. As news of his talents spread, Mr. Gettis grabbed the opportunity to expand his practice to include small businesses and other clients in a wide range of industries.

His practical and theoretical knowledge are both extremely wide-ranging, making him capable of servicing every client’s legal needs. Mr. Gettis has a broad range of experience in serving the needs of businesses. His areas of extensive knowledge include:

  • Bankruptcy

  • Business transactions

  • Commercial lending

  • Contract drafting/negotiation

  • Debt collection

  • Employment law

  • Landlord/tenant

  • Litigation

  • Real estate transactions

A natural entrepreneur, Mr. Gettis started and operated a computer services business while attending Oak Brook College of Law. He graduated cum laude in 2000.
